Endoscopy is the visualization of hollow organs with a lighted optical instrument.

Bronchoscopy is the evaluation of the windpipe and bronchial tubes. It is used for diagnosis and for retrieval of aspirated material, such as food or pieces of toys.

Esophagoscopy is for seeing the inside of the esophagus to assess irritation or narrowing. It is also used frequently to retrieve swallowed coins and other material that is stuck in the food tube.

Sigmoidoscopy is used to see the rectum and lowest part of the large intestine. It is employed in children to help diagnose bleeding or to visualize and remove polyps.
